The school was established in the year *1979* at one of the community leader's shop (*Alh. Abdulhamid Dantakai*) at *Mallamawa Quarters* near Kanyar Badala, as *Tudun Wada Primary School*, with a total number of 45 pupils.

Subsequently, the community leaders and PTA made an appeal to the government to provide a permanent site for the school. In *1983*, the request was granted, and a block of two classrooms was built at *No.1 Rano Street, Tudun Wada Quarters, Daura*. In the year *1984*, this makes the school moved to its permanent site.

In the year *1998*, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Daura, *Alh. Dr. Muhammad Bashar*, renamed some primary schools in Daura municipal bearing the names of prominent personalities. The school was renamed after the Emir’s father *Late Magajin Garin Daura, Umaru*, as *Magaji Umaru Primary School, Daura*.

In the year *2000*, the Ex-Nigerian President, while a Governor of Katsina State, created one pilot primary school in each local government, and the school was among those selected.

In *2013*, the *Nursery Section* was introduced as requested by members of the community.
